Counselling at MBS

Counselling offers space to explore your inner world and make sense of the world around you.

I work with children from the age of three, young people and adults. Together, we find ways of exploring that suit the person—their age, interests, needs and ways of communicating.

This may include talking, play, creativity, role-play, noticing feelings and sensations within the body, or learning more about emotions and experiences.

At the heart of this work is connection within the therapeutic relationship: the experience of being listened to, met with curiosity and given room to begin where you are.

Supporting children and the people around them

A child’s experiences do not exist only within the counselling room.

Alongside my work with children, I work collaboratively with parents, caregivers and, where appropriate, schools and other professionals involved in their support.

With agreed consent and clear confidentiality boundaries, we can develop a shared understanding of the child while keeping their voice and experience central.

This helps the understanding developed in counselling find its way into everyday life—in how a child is listened to, how their needs are recognised and how the people around them respond.

Supporting adults

For adults, counselling can offer space to notice feelings, recognise patterns and explore needs, relationships and experiences with greater compassion.

As understanding grows, a person may begin to trust themselves more, express what matters to them and feel more confident in their choices.

What begins within the therapeutic space may gradually become part of everyday life: a clearer boundary, a different response, a more honest conversation or a kinder way of relating to oneself.

There is no prescribed pace. We remain curious about what feels meaningful and how you wish to carry it forward.

Getting Started

You can contact me by email or phone, or send an enquiry through the website. You do not need to know exactly what you need or have everything ready to explain.

A first conversation

I offer a free initial telephone call of around 15 minutes.

This gives us an opportunity to talk briefly about what brings you to counselling, ask questions and consider whether working together feels appropriate.

There is no obligation to book a session afterwards.

For children and young people

I usually begin by speaking with a parent or caregiver.

If we decide to proceed, we arrange an assessment appointment with the parents or caregivers. This offers time to explore the child’s needs, experiences, strengths and the support around them, and to discuss how counselling might help.

Together, we consider the next steps, keeping the child’s voice, choices and experience at the heart of the work.

For adults

If we decide to proceed, the first couple of sessions usually form an assessment period.

We take time to explore what has brought you to counselling, what you would like support with and how we might work together. You can ask questions and begin at your own pace, without needing to share everything at once.

Deciding together

Assessment is a time to build understanding and consider what support may be appropriate.

We will discuss the next steps together, with space for questions and choice.
